(Bloomberg) – The number of U.S. cargoes bound for European ports jumped by a third over the weekend as the continent shivers amid a worsening energy crisis.

According to data compiled by Bloomberg, 20 tankers were transporting US gas to Europe, up from 15 on the eve of the Christmas holidays. Fourteen other ships were heading for general Europe pending final orders.

European gas prices fell for a fourth straight session on expectations that US deliveries will help allay supply concerns. Even after the recent crisis, fuel prices are still 10 times higher than a year ago.
