Counterpoint: the European smartphone market slips again in the second quarter

So, let’s say if I had a Zenfone 9, I wouldn’t have enough space. Talk to me when the 𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒆 storage option on phones is 256 GB.

The problem is the price. Almost everyone these days (Realme soon) charges 900 and 1000+ for their flagship, which is Apple/Samsung territory.

Anonymous, 3 hours agoThey actually have the brains to see how overpriced, disappointing and anti-consumer smart phones are… moreI mean, Americans in general don’t have a lot of options to start with.

This is why Motorolla sells well in the United States but not in Europe for example.

FatShady, 2 hours agoof course the number is going to be low, since now the price of the low midrange is almost twice as muchWell, now you know the solution. This is not the manufacturers problem, but your country and your government. Or do you expect Apple or Samsung to sell phones below manufacturing cost just so you get the same price as countries where millions are sold?

Anders, 2 hours agoHaha yeah “shortage of chips” but companies like Samsung have millions of excess inventory… moreYes 👍 Apart from Samsung, other companies too, as usual, are releasing phones every week. The worst is that the quality drops. Now there is also no metal frame even on many flagships. They are really trying to get their customers to buy more phones lol

You don’t need to think about the popularity of sales shortages blah blah blah. You can just buy your favorite phone. I used to like Sony but now Samsung is the king. Superb software support.

If it’s a few thousand, why make som… moreof course the number is going to be small, because now the price and the low midranger is almost twice the average monthly salary, there are many Asian countries in a similar situation, and yet they have stores there in msrp, also off crap gov is it doesn’t help at all with 90-120% import tax…

Samsung as well as first qua… moreGood point, these dinosaurs get used to the new era or buy the sony mark llll which brings all that! if they want it they have to pay and pay $1800 what happens is guys like that and how they abound here look for those specs they want good sensors good screen good sounding good, good materials, good battery, good SFW, BUT THEY WANT IT CHEAP!! AS IF ALL THIS HAD NO COST

Fewer Chinese flagships in the EU means more happy Samsung and Apple. The prices of everything are going crazy, not the incomes, if you want to solve the problem of purchasing power, try to change that. With Chinese phone maker bans, covid, war, it feels like a 4 year lag in technology. Imagine there’s fold4 soon and still no competition, the phones have little to no improvement, some specs are even worse…
It could be better if Siemens, Nokia and Alcatel released flagship products, nothing else…

If it’s a few thousand, why make it special? Why create a store? The price of the phone should cover all the costs of selling the few parts there…

Anonymous, 3 hours agoThey actually have the brains to see how overpriced, disappointing and anti-consumer smart phones are… moreDo not lie. Apple still has the strongest year-end. Samsung also and also in the first quarter (new Galaxy S range), so a slight Q/Q drop is normal. And YoY sales are increasing, so Samsung and Apple are doing very well.
And, based on recent information, S22 and iPhone 13 series are the best-selling versions. Somehow none of them have microSD, socket and charger in the box. Guess why? Because people don’t care anymore. Only stupid kids do that.

Anonymous, 3 hours agoThey actually have the brains to see how overpriced, disappointing and anti-consumer smart phones are… morebest place if you live in America, Canada and a few other countries, but for the rest of the world they’re doomed, and Africa for example is royally screwed, we don’t have nothing, not a fucking store (except in a few countries at most), we pay 2-3 times the msrp and our second hand is always more expensive than the actual msrp, not just talking about phones, talking about everything…

The so-called “”SemiConDucTor sHoRtage”&q… moreHaha yeah “chip shortage” but companies like Samsung have millions of excess inventory lying around. There is no shortage of tokens. Just BS to try to justify the price increase and quality degradation of phones in 2022

A

Again, GSMarena and the smartphone makers can keep claiming that the bad sales are due to Covid, the “war” in Ukraine or whatever they want. But the fact is that the quality of phones has gone down as prices have gone up so of course people won’t buy new ones

Smartphone sales are plummeting everywhere. The so-called “semiconductor shortage” that is driving up prices

They actually have the brains to see how overpriced, disappointing, and anti-consumer smart phones are becoming. They’d rather sell you a storage upgrade than offer an SD slot. They’d rather (try to) sell you wireless headphones than add an aux port. They would rather charge you more money than offer a competitive price. This seems to be the only logical conclusion. The fact that Americans (I’m American) are buying so many iPhones and smartphones in general is crazy. I always have to have the new update. I think eBay is the best place to buy phones if you know what you’re looking for, for this reason. Phones in America have such a high turnover rate that you are going to find nice phones at a good price.
