LONDON, Aug. 3, 2022 /CSRwire/ — The Baker Hughes Foundation has announced a $60,000 grant to Red Cross Societies in Europe to provide support to those affected by wildfires.

In June and July, heat waves sparked forest fires across Europe. Baker Hughes has over 10,000 employees in Europe and is committed to promoting the safety, health and well-being of the communities where it operates. This donation also supports the company’s commitment to advancing United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — specifically SDG 3 to enable healthy lives and promote well-being for all and SDG 6 to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

National Red Cross Societies are the backbone of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. National Societies provide a range of services including disaster relief, health and social programmes. Each company is made up of an unprecedented network of volunteers and community workers who are often the first on the scene when a disaster strikes, and they remain active in affected communities long after everyone else has left. This grant will be sent to Red Cross Societies in the UK, Italy, France and Germany.

“Our hearts go out to all those affected by the wildfires in Europe. We understand that the process of recovery and reconstruction extends far beyond the initial disaster, and we are grateful that the Red Cross is ready with essential support for as long as needed,” said Brian Worrell, Baker Hughes Foundation Chairman and Baker Hughes Chief Financial Officer. “Our Baker Hughes team is grateful to the firefighters and first responders who keep us safe. alongside our employees, our neighbors and our community during this difficult time.”
