Assystem: to pilot the new electrified rail link between Europe and Asia in Turkey

Assystem has been appointed to oversee the development of a new 67 km section of electrified high-speed rail line between Ispartakule and Çerkezköy, which will reduce carbon emissions and connect Turkey to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) via the Bulgaria.

A company committed to energy transition, Assystem considers the Ispartakule and Çerkezköy railway line to be a flagship decarbonisation project for Turkey.

Selected by the Director General of Infrastructure Investment (AYGM) of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, Assystem will oversee the delivery of the entire project and provide a range of technical assistance activities to the Unit. AYGM project implementation plan (PIU) over a period of 51 months.

The services provided by Assystem will include assistance with environmental and social implementation and compliance management, training of the AYGM’s PIU, assistance with procurement and contract implementation. , technical assistance to railway engineering, review of design and technical specifications, management and reporting of financial documentation compliance, and monitoring and evaluation.

The project includes the construction of a 67 km section of the new high-speed rail line from Ispartakule to Çerkezköy: maximum design speed of 200 km / h, double track, electrified railway and the required systems, including European level 1 rail traffic management system, power supply and auxiliaries.

The company has successfully participated in metro and railway projects in France, Qatar and India. In addition to its Turkey-based experts operating under Assystem Envy, it also has specialized transport hubs in the UK and India, having acquired infrastructure consultants Schofield Lothian and STUP Consultants respectively in 2021.

The project is co-financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and is highly strategic for Turkey as it will improve rail connectivity between Europe and the Asia, offering low-carbon freight distribution and a mass transit solution that will boost regional economic activity without leading to increased greenhouse gas emissions.
